Sabine Appelmans was born on April 22, 1972, in Aalst, Belgium. Her height is five foot six inch with weight 58 pounds. She is Left-handed player and turned her profession in 1988. She achieved the quarter finalist in Australian Open, 1997. She used to be coached by Steven Martens, and trained at the VTV Center in Antwerp, Belgium.
 
Sabine started playing at the neighbour's court at the age of seven. Her first trainer, Fred Debruyn saw immediately that she was very talented. Although right handed, she played left handed. At a children's tennis training session she claimed to be left handed so she could stay with her friend in the left-handed group. Appelmans turned pro in 1988, and won her first title against Chanda Rubin in the Arizona Classic in 1991. She made her first Fed Cup appearance in 1988, with a 2-1 loss against Austria. In 1997, she married Serge Haubourdin. Throughout her career, she won seven singles titles and 4 doubles titles.
 
Sabine Appelmans played very well in 1997. In singles she achieved the highest ranking no. 16 in November 24, 1997. For doubles she got highest ranking number 21 in August 25, 1997. She was participated in Grand Slam. In that for Australian Open she reached QF, Quarter final in 1997, French Open 4 round 1991, Wimbledon 4th round in 1997 and 2000, U.S. Open 4th round in 1992 and 1999.
 
Sabine was elected most beautiful female player in the WTA, World Tennis Association Tour in 1997. The top three were Appelmans, Kandarr and Graff. This election was held by 70 journalists. She was nominated for the Karen Krantzcke Sportmanship Award in 1994 and 1995. She was chosen as most ideal woman by the readers of the Belgian magazine Panorama.
