Rosie Casals
Presently tennis is an Olympic sport, as well as, it is played in various tournaments including the four Grand Slams in many countries, by people of all ages and classes. Tennis is an outdoor sport which can be played between two players or four players. This game started in England and was the most popular amongst the upper class of society. Rosie Casals was an American professional tennis player. She received only tennis lessons from her father, Manuel, who was a soccer player in his native El Salvador and was a member of the national team. Rosie Casals was born on September 16, 1948 in San Francisco, California. Her height is five foot two inch with weight 120 pounds. She was Right-handed player. She professionally retired in 1968. She reached 1969 Australian Open quarter finalist, in 1969 and 1970 French Open quarter finalist, in 1969, 1970, 1972 Wimbledon semi finalist, in 1973, 1976, 1977 quarter finalist, in 1970,1971 U.S. Open finalist, 1969 semi finalist, in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976 quarter finalist. Rosie Casals entered the U.S. Top 5 for the first time in 1964 at 16 years old. In 1971 Rosie played a record 32 tournaments in singles, 31 in doubles, amounting to 205 matches. She won 11 singles, 112 pro doubles titles. She won the first-ever Virginia Slims Series tournament, played in Houston, September 23-26, 1970. She was U.S. Fed Cup Team captain in 1980 and 1981. She served as player coach of U.S. Wightman Cup team in 1977, 1979 and 1980. She ranked 10 times No. 1 on U.S. doubles list, eight times with Billie. She won Doubles champion in 1967, 1971, 1974, 1982, mixed champion in 1975, mixed finalist in 1967, 1972 in US open. In French Open Doubles finalist in 1968, 1970, 1982 respectively. She won the recipient of WTA Tour Honorary Membership Award in November 1987 and inducted into Northern California Tennis Hall of Fame in 1991. She just wanted to be the best ever. Rosie Casals has represented the WTA Tour on the Women's Tennis Council. She is President and inspiration for Sportswoman, Inc, incorporation a sports promotion and Management Company. Currently she promotes the Tennis Classics, an over-30s circuit for both men and women.
