Ray Ruffels (1946)
Tennis is an outdoor sport, which can be played between two players or four players. Players utilize a stringed racquet to hit a rubber ball, hollow inside covered with felt over a net into the opponent's court. In some places tennis is referred to as lawn tennis. This game started in England and was the most popular amongst the upper class of society. Presently tennis is an Olympic sport, as well as, it is played in various tournaments including the four Grand Slams in many countries, by people of all ages and classes. There are three different court surfaces it is played on namely, clay court, grass court and hard court. Depending on the surface, each one provides a different movement of speed and bounce for the ball, which in turn affects the level of play of individual players.
Ray Ruffels was born on March 23, 1946, in Sydney, Australia. Ruffels is a Right-handed tennis player. He is a well known Tennis Player. Ray Ruffels is located in Carson, CA, joined the USTA, United States Tennis Association home player development staff as a full time National coach for Women’s tennis in January 2003. Ray was previously a part-time staff member working with the high performance touring pro program.
Prior to that, he was the director of Tennis at Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, FL, from 1994 to 2000. A native of Australia, Ray played on the tour from 1964 to 79, winning 12 singles and 20 doubles titles, and was a member of the Australian Davis Cup team in 1968 to 70 and 1977. He reached the singles semifinals at the Australian Open three times in 1968, 1969 and 1976 and won the 1977 Australian Open doubles with Alan Stone. Ray also reached the mixed doubles final at Wimbledon and the US Open with Billie Jean King in 1978.
