Barbara Potter was born on 22 October 1961 in Woodbury, Connecticut, United States of America and is one of the former tennis players. Her height is five foot nine inches and weight is 135 pounds. She is right handed player. She turned professional in 1979 and retired in 1989.
 
She graduated from Yale University and has won medals in ski competition. She enjoys all kind of music, big family gathering, art, reading and cooking. She also likes European cuisine, psychology and study of history.  
 
In singles she was winner in the competition held at Cincinnati in 1988, Wichita in 1987, Monticello in 1985, Cincinnati in 1982 and at Toronto in 1981. In doubles she was winner at Newport in 1988, Bridgestone in 1986, Dallas in 1985, Washington, DC, Boston in 1984, Oakland, Tampa in 1982 and again in at Boston in 1981. She was also the member of United States Wightman Cup Team in 1982, 84 and United States Fed Cup team in 1988.
 
In 1982, she had biggest singles title at US Indoors when she defeated Austin 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in semi final and Shriver 6-4 6-2 in final. In 1986, she suffered two herniated disks in her back at Eastbourne and was forced off the tour several times, but after a grueling exercise and fitness program, successfully returned to the tour. In 1988 at Cincinnati, she earned last singles title of career by defeating Kelesi in final. In 1989, she re-aggravated a persistent back condition at the beginning season when she was involved in an automobile accident. She retired in November due to deteriorating hip cartilage.
 
She has career wins over BJ King, Sanchez Vicario, Novotna, Mandlikova, Lindqvist, Hanika and Garrison. She was honored with Maureen Connolly Brinker Sportsmanship Award in 1988. She was presented with Amstel Light Sportsmanship Award at Madison Square Garden in 1984. She was recipient of 1982 WTA, Women’s Tennis Association Most Improved Player Award. She was also presented with 1982 Tennis Magazine Most Improved Player Award and she became first girl to start on boys prep school tennis team as number 1 singles and earned 10-3 record.
