Barbara Paulus was born on 1 September 1970 in Hinterbruehl, Austria and is one of the great Australian tennis players. Her birth place is Vienna, Austria. Her height is five foot nine inches and weight is 137 pounds. She is right handed player and she turned professional in July 1986. She retired from her profession in 2001. Her coach was Peter Eipeldauer. Her nick name is Babsi.
 
In singles she is a winner of six WTA tour and also of Warsaw in 1997 and 1995, Styria in 1996, Pattaya City in 1995, ITF International Tennis Federation/Maribor in 1994, European Open in 1990 and 1998 and ITF and Wels Austria. In doubles was the winner of Sofia in 1988 and was the semi finalist at Arcachon, Bastad in 1989. She also won Austrian Fed Cup Team in 1986-87, 1989-91, 1996-97 and was the player of the Austrian Olympic team in 1988 and 1992.
 
In 1989, she unseeded, upset world number 4 evert 6-4, 6-1 in 2 round at European Open. In 1992-1993, she was unable to compete from March-May due to rehabilitation from knee surgery and a wrist injury and was off tour from October 1992 to April 1993 due to recurrent problems in both wrists. In 1996, she entered world top 10 at number 10 for first time on November 18, capping a remarkable comeback from injuries suffered over the years. Her pervious high rank was number 12, reached six years earlier and further marked full recovery by qualifying for the season-ending championships. She last qualified for the championships in 1990. In 1997, she missed start of season due to an injured right thumb. In July, she withdrew from quarter final match in Maria Lankowitz due to right elbow tendonitis and joined the Million Dollar Club. At Warsaw, she won sixth career title, without dropping a set. In 1999, she missed season due to elbow surgery.
 
She had career win over A. Huber, Pierce, Sabatini, Date and Novotna. She received 1990 Golden Needle award from Austrian Tennis Federation.
