Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario
Tennis is an outdoor sport which can be played between two players or four players. Players utilize a stringed racquet to hit a rubber ball, hollow inside covered with felt over a net into the opponent's court. In some places tennis is referred to as lawn tennis. Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario was born on December 18, 1971 in Barcelona, Spain. Her height is 5 foot 6 inches and weight 123 pounds. She is a right handed player. She is one of only five women to have won more than 700 singles matches in her career. She ranks number 5 in career prize money behind Graf, Navratilova, Hingis and Davenport. She won at least one singles title every year for nine consecutive years from 1988 to 1996. She competed in 58 Grand Slams, 43 consecutively and reached semi final at 22 of those, final of 12, winning four, between 1994 Australian Open and 1996 Wimbledon, reached eight finals in 11 Grand Slams played. She led Spain to its first five Fed Cup victories in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1998, appearing in 10 finals total, also holds Fed Cup records for number of ties played and number of rubbers won. She made Grand Slam debut at 1987 Roland Garros, reaching quarter final and won first WTA Tour singles title at Belgian Open. She defeated Graf 60-62 en route to 1991 Roland Garros final, only player to win two 6-0 sets against Graf. By winning 1994 Roland Garros and US Open, she became eighth player in Open Era to win two or more Grand Slam singles titles in same year, and became first-ever Spanish woman to win US Open, won US Open doubles title. In 1998, she won Sydney over both Williams sisters to precede her final Grand Slam triumph over Seles and move back to number 4 in the world. She qualified 13 straight years for the season-ending Championships in singles, reaching the final in 1993, falling to Graf in four sets, qualified in doubles nine times with five different partners. In her career, she is winner of 29 singles and 69 doubles titles on the WTA, Women’s Tennis Association Tour, 14 time Grand Slam champion four in singles, six in doubles and four in mixed doubles. She ranked as the world's number 1 player in both singles and doubles during career and first Spanish tennis player to do so, simultaneously number 1 in singles and doubles in1995.
