Tennis is an outdoor sport which can be played between two players or four players. Players utilize a stringed racquet to hit a rubber ball, hollow inside covered with felt over a net into the opponent's court. In some places tennis is referred to as lawn tennis. This game started in England and was the most popular amongst the upper class of society. Presently tennis is an Olympic sport, as well as, it is played in various tournaments including the four Grand Slams in many countries, by people of all ages and classes. Stefan Edberg was born on January 19, 1966 in Vastervik, Sweden and is a former World No. 1 professional tennis player in both singles and doubles play from Sweden. His height was 6 feet 2 inches and weighed 170 pounds. His singles career record is 806-270 his highest ranking is No. 1 on August 13, 1990 and his doubles career record is 283-153 and highest ranking is No. 1 on June 9, 1986. Stefan began playing tennis at the age of seven in Vastervik, Sweden. Youth-trainer Sven Bergsten noticed Stefan's talent for the game, especially his feeling for the ball and his excellent movement on the court. Bergsten decided to become Stefan's coach along the way to what eventually became the top. In 1977 Stefan won his first big title which was the Kalle Anka Cup. At sixteen Stefan became again a European champion and succeeded in winning the most prestigious junior title in tennis the Orange Bowl. At the end of 1982 his name appeared for the first time on the ATP, Association of Tennis Professionals, world ranking list position of 523. His match record now showed 78-12. Due to another injury Stefan unfortunately couldn't play the Davis Cup Finals against India. But even without him, Sweden beat India impressively 5-0. He was a player known for his mental toughness, and because of that, many of his most famous matches went the distance. He was a unique and skilled tennis player who in his career drew many fans. Being one of the all-time revolutionary players, he was always applauded for his stunning effort contributing to the game. During his career till now he has won several titles and was always in the process of improving his play.
