Shuai Peng
Tennis is a sport played between either two players, for Singles or two teams of two players, for doubles. In England, from where it is attributed that the modern game began in the late 19th century, refers to it as lawn tennis as it is used to be played predominantly on grass. The game spread throughout the English-speaking world amongst the upper classes. Now played on three different surfaces of clay, grass and hard courts, the movement of speed and bounce for the ball differs, affecting the level of play of individual players. In 1881 the desire to play tennis competitively led to the establishment of tennis clubs. The first championships at Wimbledon, in London were played in 1877. The U.S. National Women's Singles Championships were first held in 1887. In 2000 Shuai Peng’s competed only at the ITF tournament in Nanjing, China which was her International Tennis Federation Circuit debut. In 2001 she won her won first singles title in third ITF Circuit event, unranked, by passing two seeds, including the top seed in the semifinals. In 2002, as the Number 512, she started the year with a title at the ITF in Mumbai, India as a qualifier and reached the final of the ITF in New Delhi, India, with seven straight-set wins in the process. In 2005, it was her breakthrough season, which was first highlighted by two Tour semifinals and three tour victories over Top 10 players as a qualifier. She upset the Number 3 seed for first Top 10 player victory of her career. Shuai Peng’s career highlights include being a singles winner in three ITF Tournaments in the 2004, of two ITF tournaments each in 2003 and 2001 and one in 2002. She was a semifinalist three times over 2005 and 2006 and a quarterfinalist five times over 2004 and 2005. In 2006, she was a finalist at Strasbourg and she was also a doubles semifinalist. She was a Chinese Federation Cup team member in 2001 and 2006 She is coached by Karel Fromel. She began playing at age of 8, when an uncle introduced her to the game. She favors hard courts and her forehand is her primary weapon. As a junior she reached the quarterfinals of the Orange Bowl in 2000, the Canadian Open Championships in 2001 and LTA International Junior Championships in 2001.
