Sergi Bruguera was born on 16 January 1971 at Barcelona, Spain. His height is six foot two inch and weight is 167 pounds. He is a right handed player and he turned professional in 1988. 
 
In 1989, he won Cairo Challenger title as a qualifier. He reached first ATP, Association of Tennis Professionals semi final in Rome, defeating Andres Gomez and Jimmy Connors in 3rd round. In 1992, he reached first ATP finals in Gstaad and Geneva. He posted first top 10 win over Stefan Edberg in 1st round at Roland Garros. In doubles, he won first title in Hamburg and in Florence. In 1991, he climbed to number 5 in May and won three of five final appearances. He captured first ATP title in Estoril and won Monte Carlo title. He also won Athens title and in doubles, he won title in Geneva. He served as alternate at ATP Tour World Championship. In 1992, he won three titles for second straight year and a finalist in three others. In 1993, he captured a career-best five titles and reached four other finals while finishing a year-end best number 4.
 
He earned his first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros with victories over number 1 Sampras, Medvedev and two-time defending champion Courier in final. He became first Spaniard to win French title since Andres Gimeno in 1972 and reached first career final on carpet in Milan and broke through for his first hard court title in Bordeaux. He made ATP Tour World Championship debut and went 0-3 in round robin play. In 1994, he won at least three titles for fourth straight year, including his second Roland Garros crown.
 
His superior approach and dedication to the game made him stand out from the crowd and he had a willingness to play anywhere even while suffering from an injury.
