Arnaud Clement was born on 17 December 1977 in Aix-en-Provence, France. His height is 5 foot 8 inches and weight 160 pounds. He is a right handed player. His full name is Arnaud Marcel Maurice Clement. He began playing tennis at age seven with his brother Bruno and father, Henri. He has an 11-8 career Davis Cup record 9-7 in singles in 11 ties.
 
In 1997, he qualified at Wimbledon and advanced to 3rd round. In 1998, he reached first career semi final in Moscow. In 1999, he reached first ATP, Association of Tennis Professionals final in Marseille and reached 4th round at US Open. In 2000, at US Open, posted wins over Gaudio, defending champion Agassi, Arazi and Pavel. In Lyon, he defeated Agassi in semi final and beat Rafter in final to win his first ATP title. In 2001, Clement finished as number 2 Frenchman and advanced to first Grand Slam final at Australian Open with victories over Federer, Rusedski, Kafelnikov and Grosjean. Before losing to Agassi, he became first Frenchman to reach Australian championship since Jean Borotra won in 1928.
 
In doubles, Clement won second career title in Marseille. In 2003, he finished in Top 40 for fourth consecutive season after winning indoor title in Metz. In 2004, he finished out of Top 100 for first time in six years and started year with quarter final in Sydney and following month reached semi final in Marseille. He played Aix En Provence Challenger and reached final. He faced Santoro in Roland Garros 1st round and played longest match in history. He compiled a 3-2 Davis Cup record while helping France reach semi final. In doubles, he won first career ATP Masters Series title in Indian Wells and added titles in Metz and St. Petersburg. Also reached final in Adelaide and finished number 31 in doubles.
 
In 2005, at US Open, he reached 3rd round then followed with semi final at Orleans Challenger and finished season with 2nd round appearance at AMS Paris as wild card. The Frenchman finished in Top 100 in INDESIT ATP Entry Rankings for sixth time in last seven years, highlighted by two quarter final appearances during season.
