The Olympic Games, or Olympics, are an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprise of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent at least one color of the participating country’s national flag. Munich 1972 was also one of that Olympic. It was a summer Olympic XXVIII game.
 
The 1972 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XX Olympiad, were held in 1964 in Federal Republic of Germany. The Munich 1972 Olympics included 121 Nations, 7,134 athletes including 1,059 women and 6,075 men and 195 events. Munich 1972 Olympics started on 26 August 1972.
 
The official opening of the Games was done by President Gustave Heinemann and lighting the Olympic flame by Gunter Zahn. The Olympic oath was taken by Heidi Schuller of athletics and the official oath was taken by Heinz Pollay of equestrian sports. This Olympics games include 23 sports consist in aquatics, archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, canoe or kayak, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, shooting, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.
 
Whitewater, or slalom, canoeing was included for the first time in these games. Lasse Viren of Finland fell midway through the 10,000m final, but rose and set a world record to win the first of his four career gold medals. Freestyle wrestler Ivan Yarygin of Russia pinned all seven of his opponents en route to his first Olympic championship in the heavyweight division. Ulrike Meyfarth was only sixteen when she entered the high jump event. She beat her personal best by seven centimetres to equal the world record and earn the gold medal. She became the youngest person of either sex to win an athletics gold medal in an individual event.
 
The closing ceremony was on 11 September 1972 with USSR achieving 50 gold, 27 silver, 22 Bronze medals and reached the first position that year. During this Olympic a huge amount of clean play and sheer determination amongst all the athletes were exhibited.
