The Olympic Games, or Olympics, are an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprise of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent at least one color of the participating country’s national flag. Los Angeles 1984 is also one of that Olympic. It is summer Olympic XXVIII game. Los Angeles 1984 Olympics games included 140 Nations, 6,829 athletes with 1,566 women and 5,263 men athletes, 221 events, 28,742 volunteers and 9,190 media persons. Los Angeles 1984 Olympics was started on 28 July 1984 in United States of America as the host city. Los Angeles 1984 official opening of the Games was conducted by President of the United States of America Ronald Reagan by lighting of the Olympic flame by Rafer Johnson who was a decathlete. The Olympic oath was taken by Edwin Moses of athletics and official oath was taken by Sharon Weber of gymnastics. This Olympics games included 23 sports including aquatics archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, canoe or kayak, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, shooting, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling. Joan Benoit won the inaugural women's marathon and Connie Carpenter-Phinney the first women's cycling road race. Carl Lewis won both sprints and the long jump and earned a fourth gold in the 4 into 100m relay. Pertti Karppinen won single sculls rowing for the third time. Sebastian Coe became the first repeat winner of the men's 1,500m. Archer Neroli Fairhall was the first paraplegic athlete to take part in a medal event. She competed in a wheelchair. The closing ceremony was on 12 August 1984 with United States of America being in the leading position with 83 Gold, 61 Silver and 30 Bronze medals. During this Olympic a huge amount of clean play and sheer determination amongst all the athletes were exhibited.
