Edmonton Oilers vs. Philadelphia Flyers 1984-85

The Stanley Cup is one of the most-recognized symbols in North American sports. It is the championship trophy of the NHL, National Hockey League which is won by one of the teams that have qualified for the championship finals after playing a series of playoff matches. It is the only trophy in professional sports that has the name of the winning players, coaches, management, and club staff engraved upon it. The Cup winners keep it until the new champion is crowned.

The 1984 to 1985 season Stanley Cup final match was played between the most rival teams of the Edmonton Oilers and the Philadelphia Flyers. Both the teams had sustained the best winning forms in that season and kept the desire to win the title at the Stanley Cup. However, the Edmonton Oilers team proved to be more dominating and compiled the most famous and memorable victory over the Philadelphia Flyers team.

The Oilers’ second straight Stanley Cup championship was in motion, a flight of fancy as they overmatched the Philadelphia Flyers in five games. The Oilers’ team scored 8-3 mark in the final game, shooting down the theory that the last game is the toughest to win. The Oilers, in fact, were at their absolute best in scoring more goals than any other team in history of the final game at the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Philadelphia Flyers team, who had the best regular season record in the National Hockey League, put up a strong fight. They had 12 players performing professionally in their first or second years, winning on emotion and commotion until they met the Oilers. They had the champions reeling with a 4-1 win at the spectrum in the opening game of the series.
