Zoltán Czibor



Zoltán Czibor Suhai was born in Kaposvár, Hungary, on August 23, 1929. Also known as Czibor Zoltán, he was a Hungarian footballer. Zoltán Czibor had the chance to play for a number of Hungarian clubs, including Ferencváros TC and Honvéd, and Hungary before he joined the world famous club CF Barcelona. Zoltán Czibor played in the left-wing position and was notable not only for having a powerful shot but also for his ability to score goals in major finals.

During the 1950s, along with Ferenc Puskás, Sándor Kocsis, József Bozsik and Nándor Hidegkuti, Zoltán Czibor was part of the legendary Mighty Magyars. This legendary team remained unbeaten for an amazing 32 consecutive games. This record still stands unmatched today. During this time they became Olympic Champions in 1952 and won the Dr. Gerõ Cup, a nations cup for Central European teams. The run came to an end in the 1954 World Cup Final loosing 3-2 to West Germany.

Zoltán Czibor moved to Spain after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, there he was recognized as a prominent member of the successful CF Barcelona team of the late 1950s. He joined the team’s local rivals RCD Español for the 1961/62 season, following three seasons at CF Barcelona. After brief spells at FC Basel, FK Austria Wien and Primo Hamilton FC, he retired as a professional footballer and returned to Hungary. He died there in 1997, aged 68.
