Tigres UANL
Tigres UANL (Tigres de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León), or simply Tigres, is a Mexican football club from the state of Nuevo León, in the northeast of the country that plays in the Primera División (the first division of Mexican football). Tigres is the youngest and most successful professional team from the state of Nuevo León. Tigres UANL is the official team of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), a state-owned university.
Club de Fútbol Monterrey, or simply Monterrey, is the main rival of Tigres UANL; they play a derby called the Clásico Regiomontano. José Luis Trejo is the coach of Tigres. This club plays its home games at Estadio Universitario de Nuevo León - nicknamed El Volcán (“the volcano”). This stadium is property of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León; it is located in its premises and it has a capacity of 52,000 people. Tigres has won two national championships (1977-78 and 1981-82). Some of the most notable former players of this club are: Claudio Suárez, Ailton Gonçalves da Silva, Emil Kostadinov, Iván Hurtado, Sixto Peralta, Jorge Campos, Luis Hernández, Ramón Ramírez and Tab Ramos. Some of the current players of Tigres are: Edgar Adolfo Hernández Téllez, Tomás Campos, Sebastián González, Walter Gaitán, Aldo de Nigris, Hugo Sánchez, Jaime “Jimmy” Lozano, Javier Restrepo and Rolando Zárate.
