Vancouver Whitecaps

Vancouver Whitecaps or Whitecaps F.C. is a Canadian football club that plays in the North American USL First Division (the second division of soccer in the United States and Canada league pyramid behind Major League Soccer). Montreal Impact and Toronto Lynx are the main rivals of Vancouver Whitecaps. Bob Lilley is the coach of this club. Vancouver Whitecaps was originally known as the Vancouver 86ers of both the A-League and, prior to that, the now-defunct Canadian Soccer League (CSL).

This club plays its home games at Swangard Stadium, a multi-use stadium in Burnaby, British Columbia. It was built in 1969 and it has a capacity of 7,100 people. Today, the City of Vancouver is considering a proposal for Whitecaps Waterfront Stadium, a new 15,000 seat stadium to be built over the railway tracks east of Waterfront Station on Burrard Inlet with a proposed opening date in 2009.

In 2003, the name of the club was changed slightly to Whitecaps F.C, which encompasses the men’s, women’s, and youth development teams within the organization. Some of the current players of this club are: Josh Wicks, Tony Caig, Jeff Clarke, Steve Klein, Martin Nash, Corey Woolfolk, Tony Donatelli, Eduardo Sebrango, Anthony Noriega and Ryan Suarez.
