C.D. Luis Angel Firpo
Club Deportivo Luis Angel Firpo or simply Firpo, is a Salvadoran football club that currently plays in the Primera División de Fútbol Profesional (first division of Salvadoran football). Luis Angel Firpo is one of the most popular teams in El Salvador. On September 17, 1923, a group of local citizens founded this club; back then, it was named Tecún Umán but it was soon renamed in honor of Luis Ángel Firpo, a famous Argentinean boxer.
C.D. Luis Angel Firpo has won seven national championships. All time great Salvadoran football players such as Mauricio Cienfuegos and Raúl Díaz Arce have played for C.D. Luis Angel Firpo at some point in their careers. The coach of this club is Leonel Cárcamo Batres. This club plays its home games at Estadio Sergio Torres, a multi-use stadium in Usulután, El Salvador with a capacity of 5,000 people.
Luis Angel Firpo is the oldest club in El Salvador; it is also the club with more fans around the country. The mascot of C.D. Luis Angel Firpo is the bull, a reference to the nickname of Raúl Díaz Arce, “El Toro de las Pampas”, which translates to “The Wild Bull of the Pampas.” Some of the current players of this club are: Fidel Eduardo Mondragon, Mauricio Arnoldo Quintanilla, Isaac Nehemias Zelaya, Nilson Ricardo Perez Lalinde, Víctor Hugo Merino, José Orlando Martínez Peña and Pablo Cesar Vacca.
