Montreal Impact
Montreal Impact or Impact de Montréal is a Canadian football club that plays in the North American USL First Division (the second division of soccer in the United States and Canada league pyramid behind Major League Soccer). This club was founded in 1993 by the Saputo family following the demise of the Montreal Supra and its league (the Canadian Soccer League). Montreal Impact was a dominant club in the American Professional Soccer League (1993–1996) and the A-League (1997–2003), renamed the United Soccer Leagues Division 1 (2004).
This club plays its home games at Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard (CSCR) (sometimes, and erroneously, called Centre sportif Claude-Robillard), a multi-purpose facility, located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville. It has a capacity of 9,500 people. The club is building Saputo Stadium, a new soccer-specific stadium which should be completed by July 2007. Toronto Lynx and Vancouver Whitecaps are the main rivals of Montreal Impact. The most notable former players of this club are: Eddy Berdusco, Paolo Ceccarelli, Nick DeSantis, Jason deVos, Ali Gerba and Onandi Lowe. Some of the current players of Montreal Impact are: Mauro Biello, Greg Sutton, Gabriel Gervais, Nevio Pizzolito, José Gomes-Santana, Patrick Leduc, Adam Braz, Maurício Salles, Masahiro Fukasawa and Kirk Wilson.
