Columbus Crew
Columbus Crew is a football club based in Columbus, Ohio that plays in the MLS (Major League Soccer). Columbus Crew was one of the ten founding clubs of Major League Soccer. The name “Crew” is the result of a local fan contest and refers to Columbus’ blue collar community. The nickname of this club is The Crew. Sigi Schmid is the coach of Columbus Crew.
This club plays its home games at Columbus Crew Stadium, the first MLS soccer-specific stadium; it has a capacity of 22,500 people. From 1996 to 1999, Columbus Crew played its home games at Ohio Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University. Lamar Hunt is the owner of this club; he also owns the Kansas City Chiefs and FC Dallas. Columbus Crew has won one tournament to date, the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The three major supporters’ groups of Columbus Crew are: Fort Knox, the V-Army and Legion 04. Some of the most notable former players of this club are: Edson Buddle, Jeff Cunningham, Thomas Dooley, Brad Friedel, John Harkes, Stern John, Doctor Khumalo, Kyle Martino, Brian McBride and Robert Warzycha. Some of the current players of Columbus Crew are: Jon Busch, Frankie Hedjuk, Brandon Moss, Marcos González, Jason Garey, Joseph Ngwenya, Kei Kamara, Knox Cameron, Sebastián Rozental, Ezra Hendrickson and Ryan Coiner.
