Club Sport Cartaginés
Club Sport Cartaginés or simply Cartago, is a Costa Rican football club based in Cartago, Costa Rica that currently plays in the Primera División (First Division of Costa Rican football). This club is the oldest in Costa Rica; it was founded in 1906 and has won three Costa Rican national championships, in 1923, 1936 and 1940. Ronald Mora is the coach of this club. Cartago plays its home games at Estadio José Rafael “Fello” Meza Ivankovich, a multi-use stadium in Cartago, Costa Rica. This stadium has a capacity of 18,000 people and was built in 1973.
The last national championship that Club Sport Cartaginés won was in 1940; since then, the club has frequently finished second; in fact, Cartago won the CONCACAF Champions’ Cup in 1994. The stadium of this club is named after José Rafael “Fello” Meza Ivancovich, who was voted as Costa Rica’s best player of the 20th century. Today, he is still recognized as the player with the biggest impact in national soccer. Some of the most notable former players of Cartago are: José Rafael "Fello" Meza Ivancovich, Randall Brenes, Roy Miller, Victor Núñez, David Diach, Danny Fonseca, Pablo Salazar and Pablo Tiscornia. Some of the current players of Club Sport Cartaginés are: Donny Grant, Michael Tommy, Richard Mahoney, Alexander Castro, Esteban Sirias, Berny Solórzano, Esteban Granados, Armando Alonso, Esteban Bolaños, Jhon Jairo Quiñónez and Enoc Pérez.
