Portugal is a country that is very well-known due to the fact that it has many excellent football clubs.  Without a doubt, one that is among the first options when talking about highly recognized clubs is Clube Desportivo Nacional.  This is its complete name; however, it is usually known by many people, specially by its fans as CD Nacional “da Madeira” or just only Nacional da Madeira.  Also, they are popularly called Avinegros, which means The White-and-Black in Portuguese.

Clube Desportivo Nacional was founded as a club in 1910, and since that moment, more and more people have become fans of them, regardless of the place in which they live. The places from which most of their fans come from are United States, Canada, Brazil, England, Cape Verde and Portugal, of course.  These days, the chairman in charge of the team is called Rui Alves, and unfortunately, the manager position is vacant.

It is believed that the major rival of the Clube Desportivo Nacional is the Madeira club called CS Marítimo.The home uniform of the Clube Desportivo Nacional is black socks and pants, and a white T-shirt with black vertical stripes.  Today, the club plays in the Liga betandwin.com, which is also known as the Portuguese Liga.  In this liga, they are found in the 5th position (season 2005-2006).  The best season for the CD Nacional has been the 2004-2005 one, in which they finished 4th.  In addition, they participate in the UEFA Cup 2006-2007, in Scotland.  The stadium where they play their home games is the Estádio Eng. Rui Alves, Funchal, Madeira, with a capacity of 3,000 spectators.
