Helsingborgs IF
The city of Helsingborg is located in the southern part of Sweden. It is the closest point to Denmark and is a major regional centre of trade, transport and business. Helsingborg has an elite football team, Helsingborgs IF which was founded in 1907 and currently plays in the highest Swedish league, Allsvenskan.
Allsvenskan that means “the all Swedish” was created in 1924 and comprises the top 14 Swedish football teams playing a total of 26 games each in a season that starts in April and finishes in October. At the end of the season the two lowest placed teams are relegated to the second league and the two top teams from the Superettan are promoted in their place.
Helsingborgs IF has won the Allsvenskan six times in the 1928-29, 1929-30, 1932-33, 1933-34, 1940-41 and 1999 seasons, likewise the Swedish Championship title in the 1932-33, 1933-34, 1940-41 and 1999 seasons. The ground of Helsingborgs IF is the Olympia (Olympiastadion) which was opened in 1898, but has been rebuilt in 1993 and 1997. It has a capacity of 16, 673 spectators. Olympia has hosted two FIFA World Cup matches (1958) and seven matches in FIFA Women’s World Cup 1995.
