FC Krylya Sovetov Samara



FC Krylya Sovetov Samara is a Russian football club based in Samara. Located in the southeastern part of Russia, on the Volga River, the city was founded in 1586 and has a population of 1,157,880 inhabitants. The official name of this club is Professional Football Club Krylya Sovetov Samara. Thanks to their effort and hard work, they finished the season 2004 of the Russian Premier League in the second position.

Founded in 1942, they played their first match in the Cup of the USSR in 1944. The final match of that cup, Krylya Sovetov played against Lokomotiv Moscow and was defeated 1-5. A year later, in 1945, they played their first match in the second group in the Championship of the USSR with a 1-1 against Gorky. They finally played in the top division of the USSR in 1946. Krylya Sovetov lost that match against Zenit Leningrad 1-2.

Their highest achievement in the championship of UURS was to reach the 4th place in 1951. In the championship of Russia, they finished in the third position in the season 2004. Their participation in a European competition took place in 2002, when the team played the second round of the Intertoto Cup of UEFA. The official colors of this club are blue and white and its home stadium is the Metallurg Stadium, built in 1957 and the capacity to hold 35,330 people.
