D.C. United
D.C. United is a football club based in Washington, D.C. that plays in the MLS (Major League Soccer). The official nickname of this club is the “Black and Red.” The name of this club refers to Washington, D.C. being the capital of the United States; it is also an allusion to “United” commonly being part of the names of soccer teams in England and elsewhere. D.C. United is definitely among the most popular and successful teams in MLS.
This club plays its home games at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, a 56,454-seat facility located on East Capitol Street; it is owned by the government of the District of Columbia and is shared with the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. This city is considered to be one of the most supportive of soccer in the country. D.C. United's supporters' clubs include Fan Club United, La Norte, the Screaming Eagles and La Barra Brava. Some of the most notable former players of this club are: Jeff Agoos, Bobby Convey, Raul Diaz Arce, Marco Etcheverry, John Harkes, Ryan Nelsen, Dema Kovalenko, Roy Lassiter, Eddie Pope, Tony Sanneh and Earnie Stewart.
