Denizlispor
Denizlispor Kulubu, commonly known as Denizlispor, is one of the eighteen teams that constitute the Turkcell Super Lig, the Turkish Premier Super League. This is by far the most popular sporting competition in the country, and it is managed by the Turkish Football Federation, formed in 1923. Established in 1959, the Premier Super League plays its teams against each other in two half seasons. At the end of the league season, the bottom three teams are relegated to the Secondary League Category A. The champion and the runner-up represent Turkey at the UEFA Champions League the following year. Additionally, the teams of the Premier Super League participate along with the 36 teams of the Secondary League for the Fortis Turkey Cup, which yields two slots for the UEFA Cup. Turkish teams are limited to six foreign players.
Denizlispor hails from the city of Denizli in southwestern Turkey. Its population is of merely 275,480 people, and the city is the capital of the province of the same name. Denizli is a strategic tourist spot in Turkey since it is located close to the Pamukkale hot springs, as well as the ruins of the city of Laodicea on the Lycus, the ancient metropolis of Phrygia. Additionally, the “Cotton Castle” is located in the city and is a major tourist attraction, and the city is also renowned for its textile industry and cockerel production.
Denizlispor is actually more than a football team: it is a sports club with branches that include volleyball, basketball, table tennis, chess and gymnastics. The club was created in 1966, and it was registered with the Turkish Football Federation to participate the country’s second division that same year. The current president of the organization is Ali Ipek, and the football team is coached by Nurullah Saglam. Denizlispor, known to its fans as Horozlar or “The Roosters”, plays at the Ataturk Stadium in Denizli, which has a capacity for 17,500 people, and sports a green and black stripes uniform.
