Rapid Bucuresti
FC Rapid Bucuresti is a Romanian football Club from Bucharest founded in 1923. At that tiem, a group of workers of Grivita workshops established Asociatia culturala si sportiva C.F.R. (In English, "Cultural and Sporting Association CFR"). The club soon began to achieve some important results that were the first step for them to win four Romanian titles in 1942, 1967, 1999 and 2003. This club has also won the cup twelve times and has been the only club in Romania to reach semifinals in a competition of European clubs.
In 1923, Geza Ginzer, Grigore Grigoriu, and Teofil Covaci,agreed the merge of two clubs considered amateur: "CFR" and "Excelsior". In 1931, eight years later, the club began to play in the first division. During the years previous to the war, Rapid Bucuresti was one of the best clubs in Romania in terms of performance. It was part of those top teams who regularly won the cup. Romanian Railways cultural and sportive association Bucuresti, F.C. Rapid Bucuresti, C.F.R. Bucuresti, Locomotiva Bucuresti, Rapid Bucuresti, and F.C. Rapid Bucuresti are some of the names with which the club was known previously.
Rapid Bucuresti's official colors are white and wine. Today, it participates in the Romanian Liga 1. Their home stadium is located in Bucharest as well and it is called Giulesti Stadium. Its construction began three years their inauguration in 1939. With 19,100 seats, the stadium was renamed in 2001 Valentin Stanescu in honor of the coach with whom the team won its first title. Today, The Giulesti Stadium is one of the best grounds in Romania.
