União Desportiva Leira



UD Leira is how a sports club in Portugal is called, in spite of the fact that its complete name is União Desportiva de Leiria.  However, it is also common to hear people calling the club União de Leiria or just Leiria.  This sports club was founded on June 6th, 1966, and since this time, it has been providing their fanatics with good sports spectacles.  Their football team plays in particular in the SuperLiga, in which the first division teams play in Portugal.  In the 2005-2006, they are located in the seventh position.

The colors of the uniform they use for playing away are red and blue, and their home uniform is completely white.  The chairman of the team is called João Bartolomeu, and Domingos Paciência is the manager that is now in charge.  In addition, the União Desportiva de Leira has been characterized by their fans as “a team with class”.  The main rival teams of this club are considered to be Académica de Coimbra, Sport Clube Beira-Mar, and Naval 1° de Maio.

The União Desportiva de Leiria plays its home games in the Estádio Municipal de Leiria Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, Leiria.  This is a multi-stadium facility that relies on a capacity of holding a bit less than 30,000 spectators.  Most of the time, the stadium, which is relatively new stadium since it was built in 2003, is used for playing football matches.  Moreover, some notable players of the União Desportiva de Leiria are Nuno Valente, João Paulo, Helton, Roudolphe Douala, and Derlei.
