FCU Politehnica Timisoara



FCU Politehnica Timisoara is a Romanian football club founded in 2002. Previously, this club was named Poli and was based in Timisoara. Unfortunately, the team was not successful and their results were not what expected. Additionally, by 1990 the team has completely lost its direction. This definitely force the team's sponsor move the team to the western city where they called this new team Politehnica AEK Timisoara. However, this new club is not considered the successor of Poli. Still, some Poli's fans adopted very well this new club.

Once FCU Politehnica Timisoara overcame all the controversy around the club, it was ready to play in Liga 1. FCU Politehnica Timisoara has not won a championship o title yet; however, it is one of the most popular Romanian football clubs in Romania, not only because the great number of attendances at home matches, but also the popularity of their website among their fans and supporters. During the season 2004-2005, FCU Politehnica Timisoara faced dramatic moments when, in the first half, the team was in danger of being relegated. Fortunately, with the help of a new sponsor who decided to invest in the team, they finished the season in the 6th position.

FCU Politehnica Timisoara is widely known by its nickname Poli, Alb-Violetii (in English, White-Violets). The chairman and manager of the club are respectively Marian Iancu, and Sorin Cîrtu. The official colors of the club are violet and white and their home stadium is Dan Paltinisanu Stadium located in Timisoara and built in 1960. With the capacity to hold 33,000 people, it is the second largest stadium in Romania.
