Los Angeles Galaxy
Los Angeles Galaxy is a professional soccer club based in Carson, California that plays in the MLS (Major League Soccer). The name of the club refers to Los Angeles being the home of many stars of Hollywood. In 1996, Los Angeles Galaxy was one of the ten founding members of the league. From 1996 to 2002, the club played their home games at the Rose Bowl, but, in 2003, they moved into The Home Depot Center in Carson, California, their own soccer-specific stadium. However, since the 2005 season, this stadium has been shared with Club Deportivo Chivas USA.
This club has the highest all-time attendance in league history. Los Angeles Galaxy is also the first MLS team to make a profit in a season. The club has three fan clubs: The Galaxy Stars, The L.A. Riot Squad and The Galaxians. The mascot of Los Angeles Galaxy is a frog-like extraterrestrial known as “Cozmo.” Frank Yallop is the coach of this club. The most notable former players of Los Angeles Galaxy include: Carlos Hermosillo, Chris Armas, Jorge Campos, Mauricio Cienfuegos, Andreas Herzog, Alexi Lalas, and Carlos Ruiz. Some of the current players of this club are: Kevin Hartman, Chris Albright, Josh Gardner, Herculez Gomez, Landon Donovan, Cobi Jones, Tyrone Marshall, Santino Quaranta and Ugo Ihemelu. Los Angeles Galaxy is the current champion of the MLS (Major League Soccer) and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
