International Turku Football Club
Football Club International Turku or commonly recognized as Inter Turku or FC Inter is a soccer team located in Turku, Finland. It was established in 1990, and has played in the Veikkausliiga, the highest league of Finnish soccer since 1996. In the same year, the team gained the place of the monetarily troubled regional team Turun Toverit in the Second Division. Manager Timo Sinkkonen empowered new players, and finally the team finished first and was advanced to the First Division or Veikkausliiga.
In concert with TPS, it is one of the two clubs from Turku playing in the Veikkausliiga. The two clubs also share their stadium location at the Veritas Stadion. FC Inter's 'B team' is VG-62 that at present plays in the Ykkönen, or the second league of soccer in Finland. FC Inter also has fourteen youth teams and a youth school in alliance with the town of Turku. In 1997, the club was downgraded after ending at last in the Veikkausliiga, but achieved promotion again the subsequent season. New unknown players were taken to strengthen the team, such as Fernando della Sala and Richard Teberio. Since then the team has constantly finished among 4th and 7th in the competitions. It also maintained a stable inflow of players from others countries in addition to young stars from its own youth school.
