FC Victoria Rosport

Rosport, a commune in eastern Luxemburg, is represented at the National Division (First League) by the FC Victoria Rosport. Indeed, Rosport is one of the eight communes that constitute the canton of Echternach, in the Grevenmacher district. The commune, which has an area of 29.49 square kilometers, includes five towns, Dickweiler, Girst, Osweiler, Steinheim and Rosport. The total population of the commune of Rosport is a little over 1,800 people. Rosport is a starting point for walks along the Sure River and in the woods of Hoelt, the Girsterbusch and the Steinheirmerbusch. There is fishing in the river banks, and the town is known for the mineral water of the same name, coming from the only spring of natural sparkling mineral water of the Grand Duchy.

For the 2005-2006 season of the National Division, the FC Victoria Rosport finished in the tenth position. During that same season, the team faced the IFK Gothenburg of Sweden in the first round of the Intertoto Cup, a UEFA summer competition for European clubs that have not qualified to either the Champions League or UEFA Cup. For this event, UEFA authorities deemed necessary to play at the Luxemburg National Stadium, the Stade Josy Barthel, instead of the team’s own VictoriArena. This stadium has capacity for 2,500 people. Jean Dondelinger is the president of FC Victoria Rosport, and the team is led by German coach Reiner Brinsa. The uniform of FC Victoria Rosport is red.
