Debreceni VSC
Debreceni VSC began in 1902 as “Egyetértés Futball Club.” This Hungarian football club was renamed soon to Debreceni Vasutas Sport Club and came to the football scene in 1926. However, it took them more than 15 years to reach the Hungarian First Division. Once in the premier division of Hungary, the team had to overcome difficult periods in which Debreceni VSC was relegated to lower divisions. In fact, they started the season in the third division in 1967. The Communist era brought too many changes to this club who became Debreceni Vasutas Sport Egyesület, Debreceni Lokomotív, Debreceni Törekvés, and Debreceni Vasutas SC from 1948 to 1979.
Debreceni VSC is the football club from the town of Debrecen and since its foundation, the club’s most successful period has been the one that followed their recent promotion to first division in 1993. It was just after this period that the club won national honors such as the Hungarian Cup, twice in 1999 and 2001 and the Hungarian League in 2005. The next year, they repeated the feat winning the league for the second time. With more than a hundred years of story, Debreceni VSC is a club that has won a series of cups thanks to their perseverance in this sport.
Debreceni VSC is known widely by their nickname Loki. Their home stadium is the multi-use stadium called Stadion Oláh Gábor Út and located in Debrecen, Hungary. The stadium can hold 10,200 people and is mostly used for football matches these days. Red and white are the characteristic colors of the team, the colors that provoke feelings of passion among their followers.
