Valleta FC

The game of football started in Valletta in 1886; Valletta is the capital city of Malta with a population of 7,048. The official name the Order of Saint John gave to the city was Humilissima Civitas Valleta, which made the city bound to humility. However, with the building of bastions, curtains, and other fortifications the city became known as Superbissima or the Superb, among the ruling houses in Europe. In Maltese, it is simply known as Il-Belt or The City.

Needless to say The City contains many historic cafes, meeting places, restaurants, banks, hotels and Government offices. There are also public gardens with spectacular views of the Grand Harbor and other surroundings.

In 1935, the M.F.A. started a campaign so that each city and village would be represented by one team. During that time St. Paul’s and the Prestons were the big teams in Valletta City so there were talks about joining the teams. After the end of World War II, football started again and so did the M.F.A competitions. In 1943, the union took place and the name was immediately changed into Valleta F.C.
