Budapest Honvéd FC

Budapest Honvéd FC is the name of a Hungarian football club from Budapest, Hungary. Founded in 1909 with the name Kispest AC, Budapest Honvéd FC has had different names all throughout their history. During 1994, the Hungarian Ministry of Defense took control over the team and renamed it to the Hungarian Army team. In 2003, the club was given the name it has today. Honvéd is a term that means defender of the homeland. From this period in which the club was controlled by the army, Budapest Honvéd FC kept this term in its name and adopted Budapest in clear reference to the city that house it.

Even before Budapest Honvéd FC became the army team, the club had some periods of moderate success in which they won a Hungarian Cup in 1926. The golden age of this club took place in the 1950s when Budapest Honvéd FC won the Hungarian League for four times. Two decades later, the period from 1980 and 1990 the club experienced another era of success and glory when it won eight titles in the Hungarian League. The first team squad is composed by 29 Hungarians (most of them born in Budapest). Budapest Honvéd FC has been honored with 13 titles in the Hungarian League, 5 in the Hungarian Cup, and
one in the Mitropa Cup, Trofeo Ciudad de Vigo, and European Champions.

In Budapest, is also located their home stadium Bozsik Stadion, which holds 13,500 people and is today mostly used for football matches. The traditional colors of this team are red and black, when they are playing at their home stadiums they may use white color. The current coach is Gyorgy Gálhioli and Piero Pini and Attila Pardavi are, respectively, the president and club secretary of this team.
