FBK Kaunas
The former Soviet state of Lithuania declared its independence in 1990, and since 1992 has participated as a fully-fledged national football team in international competitions. The Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) was established in 1922 and it became part of the FIFA in 1923. In 1992, the Lithuanian Football League became a member of the UEFA.
One of the newest soccer teams of the Lithuanian League is the FBK Kaunas that currently plays in the A Lyga. Besides being a relatively new team (it was founded in 1993), the Kaunas has won the championship of that league six consecutive times between 1999 and 2004.
This team, that originally was a beseball club, plays in the S.Dariaus ir S.Gireno Stadium, located in Kaunas, the former temporary capital and second largest city in Lithuania. The stadium is named after the Lithuanian pilots Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas. It was built in 1925 and holds 8,500 people.
For the season of 2006, the Kaunas is formed by the goalkeepers Mindaugas Malinauskas, Michael Hertelendi, and, Eduardas Kurskis; the defenders Nerijus Radzius, Kazimieras Gnedojus, Tomas kancelskis, Mindaugas Baguzis, Dainius Kunevicius, and Tadas Kijanskas. In charge of the midfield are Nukri Manchkhava, Giedrius Barevicius, Givi Kvaratskhelia, Muharem Bajrami, Andrius Bastkus, Kestutis Ivaskevicius, Linas Pilibaitis, Marius Zaliukas and Edin Pehlic; finally the attackers are Ricardas Beniusis, Gvidas Juska, Rafael Pompeo Rodrigues Ledesma, Arkadiusz Klimek, Andrius Velicka and Petru Stinga. Guiding this team a wearing green and yellow uniform is the coach Algimantas Liubinskas.
