FC Progrès Niedercorn



Coming from Niederkorn, Luxemburg, the FC Progrès Niedercorn is one of the teams of that country’s Division of Honour (second league). Niederkorn itself is a town in the commune of Differdange, in south-western Luxemburg, with a population of little more than three thousand people (as of 2005). Niederkorn lies on the margins of the Chiers River, in the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette, a part of the district of Luxemburg. In addition to the local residents, the population of this region is made up of citizens of a number of neighboring countries, such as France, Germany, Belgium, Portugal and Italy, among others.


The FC Progrès Niedercorn was created in 1919, and has become an institution in Luxemburg’s football, becoming the champion of the National Division in three occasions, in 1953, 1978 and 1981, and being the runner-up five times. Additionally, the FC Progrès Niedercorn has won the Luxemburg Cup four times, and has been the runner-up in three occasions. The team reached its peak during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, participating five times in the UEFA tournament between 1977 and 1983. As of the 2005-2006 season, the FC Progrès Niedercorn finished second in the Division of Honour which, coupled with the expansion of the National Division from twelve to fourteen teams, granted the team access to the National Division.


The FC Progrès Niedercorn wears a yellow and black uniform, and plays at the Stade Jos Haupert, which has a capacity for 4,800 fans.
