Nils Ostensson
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896 and were held every four years except in 1916, 1940 and 1944 due to the World Wars. The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent at least one color of the participating country’s national flag. Nils Ostensson was born on April 29, 1918. He is a former Swedish cross-country skier who competed in the 1940's. He won the 4 by 10km gold and the 18km silver at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz. Ostensson also won the 18km and 50km events at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1949. The desire to use his talents for the Glory and Honor of his God and Country propelled him in an attempt to excel at the highest level of sporting achievement to inspire future generations of his countrymen to do the same upholding the highest standards of patriotic fervor.
