Thomas Rupprath was born on March 16, 1977 in Neuss. He is an Olympic swimmer from Germany, and nicknamed as The New Albatross. A specialist in the backstroke and butterfly, especially in short course, he the current world record holder for the 50 meter Backstroke and both on the short 25 meter and long course 50 meter.
 
Rupprath was a strong determined player who urged and inculcated a team spirit in all professional athletes of his nation. He is still respected as a high caliber player who can build the professionalism in sport to lead his nation at the foremost position. He is still remembered as one of the best athletes in the history of Olympics.
