The Olympic Games or Olympics is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C., the modern games started from 1896. The Nordic combined is a winter sport and an inseparable part of the Olympic events in which athletes compete in both cross-country skiing and ski jumping. Knut Tore Apeland is one such former Norwegian Nordic combined skier who was born on December 11, 1968 and competed during 1990's. He won the Nordic World Ski Championships, and the Winter Olympics in the team events.
 
Apeland won two medals at the Winter Olympics, both silvers in the 3 by 10 kilometer team event in 1992 and 1994. He also earned three medals in the team event at the Nordic skiing world championships including one gold in the 4 by 5 kilometer event in 1997, and silvers in the 3 by 10 kilometer in 1993 and 4 by 5 kilometer event in 1995.
 
Apeland, with all his perseverance and superior approach towards the sport, achieved many aspirations in his overall athletic career and became an international celebrity and a symbol of hope to millions.
