Karin Janz
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896.The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent atleast one color of the participating country’s national flag. Karin Janz was born on 17th February, 1952 in Berlin, Germany and was an East German artistic gymnast. Karin was one of the most outstanding gymnasts of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Her best ever result was placing 2nd in the All-Around competition at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Her father, Guido Janz, was her first coach, who taught her excellent basics. Karin moved to a Sports School in Forst, where she trained under Klaus Helbeck. Her final coach was Jurgen Heritz. Karin has an Uneven Bars element named after her, the Janz Salto, which she first performed in competition at the 1971 Dinamo Spartakiade in Berlin. In 2003 Janz was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. In Women's Artistic Gymnastics, she won gold medal in 1972 Munich in Vault, 1972 Munich in Uneven bars, silver medal in 1968 Mexico City in Uneven bars, silver medal in 1972 Munich in Team competition, silver medal in 1972 Munich All-around, bronze medal in1968 in Mexico City in Team competition, bronze medal in 1972 in Munich in Balance beam.
