Dennis Shepherd was a British amateur boxer, who was the silver medalist in the Featherweight class at the 1948 London Olympic Games. He was born on October 11, 1926. 26 years Dennis Shepherd returned to the Chiefs team management for the sixth Super 12 by14 season. He has been involved with both the Chiefs and Waikato rugby teams since 1980 as team physiotherapist. He was involved with the Chiefs from 1997 until 1999 and returned in 2004. Shepherd was with the Waikato Air New Zealand NPC, the National Physique Committee team from 1980 until 1985 then from 1994 until 2000 and most recently for the 2002 to 2005 seasons.
 
Shepherd continued to box until 1950, when he was eliminated in the opening round of the British Empire Games in Auckland, New Zealand. He subsequently retired, without having a professional career. He later moved to South Africa and died in Johannesburg on June 13, 2006, at the age of 79. More than just statistics, Dennis Shepherd had the ability to control the game, to take over. He had the speed to float away from defenders and also to recover effortlessly.
