Matt Gogel

Golf is an outdoor sport in which a player as an individual or from varied teams strikes a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. The sport does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for atleast five centuries in the British Isles.

Matthew John Gogel is one of the finest golf players who possess a reputed position in the PGA, Professional Golfers’ Association. Gogel was born on February 9, 1971 Denver, Colorado. A 5 feet 10 inches tall contender with a weight of 175 pounds made his first appearance as a professional in the 1994 season.

Gogel became the first player in the Nationwide Tour history to win in four consecutive years from 1996 to 1999. He defeated Casey Martin in Cleveland with a birdie on the second extra hole, running his career playoff record to 3-0, also a Nationwide Tour record. Later, he also became a member of the Nationwide Tour team at the Ganter Cup Challenge and won the individual stroke play with a 7-under-par 65 by defeating Craig Stadler in the match-play portion of the event.

In the 2002 season, Gogel captured his first PGA Tour victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach National two years after finishing T2 and being overtaken by Tiger Woods on the back nine. He came from four back after 54 holes to overtake Pat Perez and made a 35-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole at Pebble Beach to tie Perez for the lead. He earned full exempt status in 2001 on the strength of four top-10s and seven top-25s.

Gogel’s superior approach and dedication towards the sport made him surpass the other players of his epoch. However, he gained prominence only after he won the first PGA title in his career and became an international celebrity and a symbol of hope to millions.
