John Daly
Golf is an outdoor sport in which a player as an individual or from varied teams strikes a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. The sport does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for atleast five centuries in the British Isles. John Patrick Daly is one of the finest golf players who possess a reputed position in the PGA, Professional Golfers’ Association. Daly was born on April 28, 1966 in Carmichael at California. He is a 5 feet 11 inches tall contender with a weight of 220 pounds who swings right and made his first appearance as a professional in 1987. The 1991 season marked Daly’s beginning as ninth and final alternate into field at Crooked Stick and won the PGA Championship title. He shot opening 69 without benefit of practice round and added rounds of 67-69-71 for three-stroke victory over Bruce Lietzke. Owing to this performance, he was named as the PGA Tour Rookie of the year. In the 1995 season, Daly added second major title with victory at British Open at St. Andrews. After holding 36-hole lead, he fell to fourth position with third round 73 mark. Later in the 2003 season, Daly was ousted from the top 125 list to a number 171 position from a previous 112 position with only one top-10 in 22 starts. He was also disqualified at the final seven events of 2003 and averaged a career-best of 314.3 yards off the tee, but failed to win ninth consecutive Driving Distance crown. However, Daly came back strongly in 2004 and made a rebirth of his career with first PGA Tour victory since 1995. He advanced to win for the first time since the 1995 British Open with his playoff victory at the Buick Invitational, after a span of 189 starts and 8 years between PGA Tour wins. Daly’s superior approach and dedication towards the sport made him surpass the other players of his epoch. However, he gained prominence only after he won the first PGA title in his career and became an international celebrity and a symbol of hope to millions.
