John Cook




John Cook is one of the finest golf players who possess a reputed position in the PGA, Professional Golfers’ Association. Cook was born in the Toledo suburb of Ohio. He turned professional in the 1979 season and possesses a height of 6 feet with a weight of 175 pounds.
 
The 1978 season marked one of the Cook’s successful seasons as he became a United States Amateur champion by defeating the PGA Tour member Scott Hoch in the championship match. He became a three time All-American at Ohio State during the 1977 to 1979 season and a member of 1979 NCAA, National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship team. In the 1983 season at the Canadian Open, he defeated Johnny Miller on sixth extra hole for victory and later teamed with Rex Caldwell to win World Cup.
 
In the 1992 season, Cook surpassed the one million dollar mark in season earnings by winning three times. He captured five-man playoff at Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, ousting Gene Sauers with three birdies and an eagle over four holes. During the1996 season at FedEx St. Jude Classic, Cook tied the all-time PGA Tour record with opening rounds of 16-under-par and added third-round 63 to tie the tour record for first 54 holes of 24-under-par 189.
 
Later, the 2001 season marked a steady season for Cook as he collected first victory since 1998 at Reno-Tahoe Open and had highest finish on tour money list since that same year. In the 2003 season, Cook was limited to 10 events due a torn labrum and several cysts in his right shoulder. After missing the cut at the Masters, he underwent surgery in Orlando that put him out of action until a rehab assignment at the Albertsons Boise Open on the Nationwide Tour in September. After recovering, he played two more events in October, missing the cut in each and finally received a major medical extension for 2004.
 
John Cook’s superior approach and dedication towards the sport made him surpass the other players of his epoch. However, he gained prominence only after he won the first PGA title in his career and became an international celebrity and a symbol of hope to millions.
