Joel Edwards
Golf is an outdoor sport in which a player as an individual or from varied teams strikes a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. The sport does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for atleast five centuries in the British Isles. Joel Ashley Edwards is one of the finest golf players who possess a reputed position in the PGA, Professional Golfers’ Association. Edwards was born on November 22, 1961 in Dallas, Texas. A 6 feet tall contender with a weight of 190 pounds swings right and made his first appearance in 1984. Edwards was a 1988 winner of North Dakota Open and was named to the All-Southland Conference team at North Texas State. In the 1999 season, he earned his 2000 PGA Tour card with a second place finish on the Nationwide Tour money list. He brought home his first career victory with a come-from-behind win at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Open in February. He finished the 2001 season by making 10 of last 11 cuts and made 862,802 dollars of his career best 1,193,528 dollars. He also earned first PGA Tour title in 316th career start at Air Canada Championship. The 2002 season saw Edwards surpass the 1-million dollar mark in earnings for the second straight season owing to the four top 10s. However, he double bogeyed the final hole at the 2004 tour Qualifying Tournament to miss his 2005 card by two strokes. Edwards spent most of the 2005 season competing on the Nationwide Tour, with only one start on the PGA Tour. He made four cuts in 14 starts on the Nationwide Tour but could not earn enough in his six starts from the Major Medical Extension category. Edwards’ superior approach and dedication towards the sport made him surpass the other players of his epoch. However, he gained prominence only after he won the first PGA title in his career and became an international celebrity and a symbol of hope to millions.
