American national women's hockey team
The Olympic Games, or Olympics, is an international multi-sport event taking place every four years which comprises of summer and winter games. Though the first ancient games were held in 776 B.C, the modern games started from 1896.The unity of the 5 continents is shown on the Olympic flag by five colorful intertwined rings of red, blue, green, yellow, and black, created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin to represent atleast one color of the participating country’s national flag. The American national women's ice hockey team is controlled by USA Hockey. The United States has been, by far, the second most dominant women's hockey team in international play, having won silver in every major tournament. Exceptions where they won gold are the 1998 Winter Olympics and the 2005 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships. At those tournaments, the United States beat the dominant Canadian team, the team that regularly wins major tournaments. The exception where they won neither gold nor silver is the 2006 Winter Olympics, where they won bronze over Finland. The United States had 500 female players in 2005. The head coach is Mark Johnson. In 1998, the Women's Olympic Hockey Team was named the USOC, United States Olympic Committee Team of the Year. Krissy Wendell is the captain of the American national women's hockey team at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. In Italy, the American national women’s hockey team won Gold Medal in 1998. They also won silver medal in 2002 and bronze medal in 2006.
