Ben Bates
Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. The two basic forms of playing golf are match play and stroke play. Nationwide Tour is the developmental tour for the U.S. based PGA, Professional Golf’s Association Tour, and features professional golfers who have either failed to score well at the Qualifying School to earn their PGA Tour card, or who have done so but then failed to win enough money to stay at that level. The Nationwide Tour is one of the nine tours on which Official World Golf Ranking points are available, and one of only two developmental tours that offer ranking points. Ben Bates was a golf player who played nationwide tours. He was born in Quincy, Florida. His Nationwide Tour Victories and Best Nationwide Tour was played in 1997 Nike Wichita Open and in 2004, The Reese’s Cup Classic. In 2006 Best Nationwide Tour he was Tied 30th and won BMW Charity Pro-Am at the Cliffs. His Best PGA was held in 1998 Buick Challenge where he was positioned as Tied 8th. Ben was also member of Nationwide Tour in 1990 to 1997 and 2001 to 2005 and member of PGA TOUR from 1998 to 2001. He finished the season number 95 on the money list, with 48,422 US dollars. He finished the season number 34 on the official money list, with 162,095 US dollars. Ben participated in 1999 PGA TOUR National Qualifying Tournament and finished with Tied 2nd to maintain his playing privileges for third consecutive year. His best career finish was a Tied 8th showing at the 1998 Buick Challenge. He was winner of the 1997 Wichita Open in a four-man playoff involving Carl Paulson, Jeff Brehaut and Chris Smith. He was member of NCAA, National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II championship team at Troy State.
Ben’s superior approach and dedication towards the sport made him surpass the other players of his epoch. However, he gained prominence only after he won the first Nationwide Championship title in his career and became an international celebrity and a symbol of hope to millions.
