David Green

Coming from a family devoted to racing, David Green is one of the select few racers that have been able to raise the Busch Series trophy in recent years. Indeed, along with his brothers Jeff and Mark, David has made the “Green” name famous in racing circuits, as well as a family tradition of sorts. Born on January 28, 1958 in Owensboro, Kentucky, David Green has left a distinctive mark both in the Busch Series and the Winston Cup championships. His debut in the Busch Series came in 1989 at the Hickory Motor Speedway at the Pepsi 200 Race, driving for Day Enterprise Racing.

Two years later, he signed up with FILMAR Racing to drive the #8.The wisdom of this move was confirmed when he won the pole position at the season opening Goody’s 300, ultimately finishing runner-up to Jeff Gordon for the Rookie of the Year distinction. Inexplicably, he found himself without a team the following year, instead working in Bobby Labonte’s pit crew. Although this could have been seen as a setback, it ended up working for his advantage: when Labonte moved to the Winston Cup in 1993, Green took up driving the team’s #44. Finally, in 1994, after winning Goody’s 250 and nine poles, he obtained the Busch Series championship.

At the end of the 1995 season, Green decided to enter the Winston Cup, this time with the sponsorship of Caterpillar, driving the #96. But renewing his fortunes at the Cup would prove to be an ill fated effort, and he would end up going back to the Busch Series, driving for Team 34. The next few seasons would see him racing in quick succession for Larry Hendrick Motorsports for Tyler Jet Motorsports, Team 34 and Brewco Motorsports, returning to his winning form and visiting the victory lane on three occasions. After failing to finish among the top-five during the 2006 season, he was let go from Brewco, with a record of 9 wins, 144 top-tens and 22 poles so far.
