NHL, the National Hockey League is a premier professional North American Sports League played in indoor stadiums. It’s divided into two conferences, each comprising of three divisions of ice hockey teams. The league was established in 1917 in Montreal, Quebec and it is composed of 30 teams out of which 24 teams based in U.S. and 6 in Canada. They have a regular season and playoffs leading to the Stanley Cup, which is the NHL Championship final.

The New York Rangers are one of the oldest and most successful teams in the entire NHL. They are currently members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. It was founded in 1926. Their arena is the Madison Square garden. Their team colors are the blue, red and white. They were one of the Original Six teams and have won four Stanley Cup championships, the most famous of which was probably the win in 1994, which ended a 54-year drought some fans attributed to the Curse of 1940. However, they could not maintain this success and missed the playoffs for seven straight seasons from the 1997-98 season until 2006.

New York Rangers team won Stanley Cup in 1927-28, 1932-33, 1939-40, 1993-94 seasons. And they won Conference Championships in 1993-94 season. The Rangers have also won the division Championships in 1926-27, 1931-32, 1989-90, 1991-92 and 1993-94 seasons. Ortmeyer, a forward, had five goals and two assists in 78 games last season. Lampman, a defenseman for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League, had two goals and three assists in 11 games. He dislocated his shoulder in November and sat out the rest of the season in 2006. More than 20 others also played part of careers with Rangers as hall of famers. They won lot of trophies in many a match.

The Rangers and their local rivals, the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils, are both members of the NHL's Atlantic Division, guaranteeing plenty of regular season meetings. This is unique among New York City's major league sports teams, Major League Baseball's New York Yankees and New York Mets are in different leagues, and the National Football League's New York Jets and New York Giants are in different conferences, giving them little opportunity to play each other.
