Los Angeles Kings
NHL, the National Hockey League is a premier professional North American Sports League played in indoor stadiums. It’s divided into two conferences, each comprising of three divisions of ice hockey teams. The league was established in 1917 in Montreal, Quebec and it is composed of 30 teams out of which 24 teams based in U.S. and 6 in Canada. They have a regular season and playoffs leading to the Stanley Cup, which is the NHL Championship final. The Los Angeles Kings are a professional National ice hockey League team based in Los Angeles, California, USA. They were founded in 1967, playing in the Western Conference in the Pacific Division. The Kings made their first home, the Fabulous Forum, in Inglewood, California, for the next 32 seasons ,and now it’s the Staples Center. Players like Cowboy Flett, The Jet Joyal, The Entertainer Shack, and Frenchy Lemieux helped introduce the Los Angeles area to the NHL in the team's first few seasons. Such colorful player nicknames would make hockey more user-friendly to the Southern California market. LA Kings crown logo, was used on their jerseys from 1967-88. In their first season, the Kings finished a very respectable second place in the Western Division. In their second season behind head coach Red Kelly, the Kings would finish fourth in the Western Division. In 1972, former Toronto Maple Leafs winger Bob Pulford was their head coach. It took him just two seasons to lead the Kings back into the playoffs. Pulford would eventually lead the team to five of the most successful seasons in franchise history. They were first round oustees, despite qualifying for post-season action in the 1973-74 and 1974-75 seasons. The Kings finally moved to substantially upgrade their offensive firepower. In 1982, The Miracle on Manchester, arguably one of the greatest comebacks in NHL playoff history, is the greatest moment in Kings' franchise history to date when they eliminated the Oilers in five games in a miraculous comeback. In 1987, Bruce McNall acquired the league's best player, Wayne Gretzky led the Kings to their first regular season division title in franchise history in the 1990-91 season. In the 1993, Campbell Conference Finals, the Kings won 4-3 against the maple leafs, for a berth in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in franchise history.
